We are castrated to perform a specific social function. Depending on which culture we are from, we have different functions. Some of us are courtiers, religious specialists, government officials, military commanders, or guardians of women or harem servants. The ones who are servants or slaves are usually castrated in order to make them safer servants of a royal court where physical access to the ruler could wield great influence – seemingly lowly domestic functions such as making the ruler's bed, bathing him, cutting his hair, carrying him, or even relaying messages. There's been a rumor going around that we do not generally have loyalties to the military, the aristocracy, or to a family of their own (having neither offspring nor in-laws, at the very least). I guess this means we are more trustworthy and less interested in establishing a private 'dynasty'. Because our condition usually lowers our social status, we can easily be replaced or killed and our loss will have no major repercussions. We live in Ancient Middle East, Ancient China, and Ancient Rome.
We think of castration as an act of devotion; some of us are sacred and get spiritual roles. In Christian times, some of our ancestors practiced ritual self-castration, called sanguinaria. The practice continued throughout Christian times, with many of the early church castrating themselves as an act of devotion.
A famous example is in the Matthew 19:12. In this passage, Jesus stated: "For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother's womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it." (King James Version)
Our priests have served various goddesses from India for many centuries. Similar phenomena are exemplified by some modern Indian communities of the hijra type, which are associated with a deity and with certain rituals and festivals.
The 18th-century Russian Skoptzy sect was an example of a castration cult, where its members regarded castration as a way of renouncing the sins of the flesh. Several members of the 20th century Heaven's Gate cult were found to have been castrated, apparently voluntarily and for the same reasons.

Because we lead extremely subservient lives, we do not get a hold of technological tools.

99: Hi everyone! I just joined this page today and thought I'd give a little background info about myself. My name is Sima Qian and I used to hold high prominence in the imperial court. But, I became one of you all today when I defended a dishonored general in the public court. I knew that i could've and probably should've taken my own life upon hearing my awful punishment, but I needed to finish something only I could do. I am working on a book that will consist of court documents, historical works, and my own writiing based on personal observations from political and military figures. The book is gonna have biographies of ministers, generals, merchants, scholars, and even rebels! My hope is that even though I am disgraced, I can leave this book as my legeacy and it will be useful to those who follow.
1644: Well first of all, welcome Sima Qian, good to have you in our club! I hate to follow one depressing blog with another, but the situation calls for it. Today, all of us who were working with the MIng Dynasty lost everything because Manchu invaders (the guys who founded the Qing dynasty) ended Ming rule. We and the mandarins were making the authority of the central government better and better until these invaders came along. I guess we are expecting the worst though since word on the street is that our administrative framework will be maintained in the Qing dynasty. Better start looking for Help Wanted ads!
1650: The Qing Dynasty is here, but it looks as if we are not gonna last too long! The Confucian-scholar bureaucrats apparently despise us since we dominate the imperial court. They and the Manchus are trying to expurgate the government of any remnants of inefficiency and corruption from the Ming Dynasty. Good luck to you all.

Hey, I just wanted to let you know that I think that what you do is wonderful. It takes a devoted person to choose the life that you have selected to live, and I wanted to tell you how much your devoton means to us. Keep up the wodnerful loyalty.
- SIncerely,
I apologize for over-powering and misusing you. My dynasty was just trying to maintain its extremely centralized government. I know that the only reason you were corrupt was to get back at us, and for that I can only blame myself. Let's be friends!! <3 Ming Dynasty
